ABOUT FARHEEN

farheen.jpg

Farheen has been a public school teacher since 2014, working at the frontlines to support the next generation’s success and well-being. In her work, she respects and cares deeply about her diverse students and their families, doing her utmost to build positive relationships, meet unique needs, and nurture inclusion in her school community.

Farheen has also seen firsthand the devastation caused by the Ford government’s cuts to the public sector and mismanaged pandemic response, having experienced job insecurity and the challenges of working in a COVID “hot spot” area. She has consistently been a vocal champion for greater funding and accessibility in public institutions because she believes that no one should have their potential limited by circumstances out of their control.

Farheen works tirelessly to support neighbours in need, recognizing that caring for the most vulnerable in our communities benefits everyone. She has volunteered at vaccination clinics and Green Toronto tree planting events, assisted with refugee applications, and supported countless local charity initiatives. She has also been involved as a member of OSSTF D-19, Ontario Education Workers United, and Etobicoke-Lakeshore NDP. Farheen holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Politics from Queen's University, and a Bachelor of Education and Master of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. She is always interested in learning more about how she can better serve her community.

I am running because I want to represent my neighbours and transform our public institutions to address systemic inequities and respond to our community's needs.

ISSUES

Farheen is focused on bringing Etobicoke-Lakeshore the representation it needs by addressing these key concerns:

PUBLIC EDUCATION

Providing resources to support smaller class sizes, de-streaming, and curriculum that addresses systemic racism and the TRC’s calls to action; ending hybrid learning by funding dedicated online and in-person teachers; and improving school safety with vaccination outreach and greater access to rapid testing kits.

CLIMATE ACTION

Protecting the green community spaces in our riding and upholding research and policies that prioritise reducing emissions; Revitalizing options for walking, cycling, and public transportation in
Etobicoke-Lakeshore and advocating for the
creation of a Park Lawn GO station.

COMMUNITY WELL-BEING

Fighting for livable incomes, affordable and safe housing options, paid sick days, and a more comprehensive health-care system that includes access to mental health services.
